NEET 2026 Syllabus Subject-wise Breakdown

The NEET 2026 syllabus closely mirrors the CBSE science curriculum for Classes 11 and 12 and is drawn directly from NCERT textbooks. The NMC revised the NTA NEET syllabus the previous year, removing some topics and adding others. No major changes have been introduced for 2026, so students who began preparing on last year's structure can continue without disruption.

What is the Physics Syllabus for NEET UG 2026

Physics in the NTA syllabus for NEET 2026 draws equally from Class 11 and Class 12 - mechanics and waves on one side, electricity and modern physics on the other. It is the section students tend to find most unpredictable, because questions test both conceptual understanding and numerical application. Knowing the formulae is only part of it; being able to apply them quickly under time pressure is what separates good scores from great ones.

Difficulty level

  • Considered the most challenging section, questions frequently involve multi-step reasoning, and Class 12 Electrostatics and Optics is where most marks are lost.

Preparation strategy

  • Build a formula sheet early and revise it daily
  • Solve 20 to 30 numericals per chapter before moving on
  • Do not leave Experimental Skills - it is low-effort and reliably rewards marks

What is the Chemistry Syllabus for NEET UG 2026

Chemistry in the NEET UG syllabus 2026 is divided into Physical, Inorganic, and Organic sections, each requiring a different approach. Inorganic is the most NCERT-dependent of the three - careful textbook reading covers most of what gets asked. Organic requires understanding reaction mechanisms rather than memorising outcomes, and Physical Chemistry rewards consistent numerical practice more than any other study method.

Difficulty level

  • Sits in the middle and is more predictable than Physics but more detail-heavy than Biology. Inorganic is the most scoring if NCERT is read thoroughly; Organic is where students most commonly drop marks.

Preparation strategy

  • Tackle Physical and Inorganic together in the early phase, since both are more structured.
  • Give Organic a focused second pass, working through mechanisms chapter by chapter rather than topic by topic.

What is the Biology Syllabus for NEET UG 2026

Biology carries 360 out of 720 marks in the syllabus for NEET 2026, which makes it the subject where preparation time pays off most directly. Most questions are framed around NCERT content, sometimes lifted from specific lines or diagrams in the textbook. Students who have read carefully, rather than relied on summarised notes, consistently score better, particularly in chapters like Human Physiology, Genetics, and Ecology.

Difficulty level

  • The most approachable section, but also the one where careless reading costs the most - questions are precise enough that a half-remembered answer is as good as a wrong one.

Preparation strategy for NTA NEET syllabus 2026

  • Read the NCERT once for understanding, then go back and annotate
  • Mark diagrams, exceptions, and classification tables separately as these show up most often in the actual paper

How to Score 600+ in NEET 2026

Reaching 600+ requires more than working through the syllabus; it takes a strategy built around how the paper is actually set. For Biology, read the NCERT textbook line by line, not just for concepts but for specific phrasings, because that is how many questions are framed. For Physics and Chemistry, understand derivations, not just final formulae.

Once the basics are covered:

  • Prioritise Biology consistently, as it carries the most marks and rewards NCERT-level reading directly
  • Solve chapter-wise previous year questions right after finishing a topic, not at the end of the cycle
  • Run full-length mock tests at 2:00 PM, the actual exam time, to build realistic stamina
  • After every mock test, analyse errors for patterns rather than just checking the score
  • Build short notes for Inorganic Chemistry and Biology facts that need fast recall under pressure

Students who cross 600 are almost always those who have covered the full syllabus of NEET 2026 without major gaps, not those who mastered a few chapters at the expense of others.

How Can Students Cover the NEET Syllabus 2026 Effectively?

To prepare for the syllabus for NEET 2026 efficiently, students can follow some simple tips mentioned below:

Learners should:

  • Create a study plan to cover different topics methodically, while giving more attention to areas where they are weak.
  • Have a comprehensive understanding and thorough knowledge of the subject concepts.
  • Refer to the NCERT textbooks for guidance. If they choose to use online study materials such as video lectures or interactive apps, they should ensure that the sources are reliable.
  • Solve NEET question papers from past years to understand the exam pattern and improve on weak areas.
  • Pay special attention to challenging topics in the NEET biology syllabus.
  • Revise their topics regularly for better learning and to avoid stress during exams.
  • Avoid learning anything new at least six to eight weeks before the NEET exam date 2026. That window is for revision and mock tests only; anything new at that stage does more harm than good.
  • Every two weeks, check what you have actually finished against the NTA syllabus for NEET 2026. Small gaps feel manageable until they are not.

frequently asked questions

What is the NEET UG syllabus 2026?

+

The NEET UG syllabus 2026 covers Physics, Chemistry, and Biology - all drawn from NCERT Class 11 and 12. It is set by the National Medical Commission, and the NTA uses it to frame the paper. Human physiology, genetics, thermodynamics, organic chemistry, optics, and electrostatics are the kinds of topics that make up the bulk of it. The full PDF is on the NMC's official website.

Has the NEET syllabus changed for 2026?

+

Nothing significant has shifted in the NEET syllabus this year. What students are preparing from now is the same updated version of 2024, carried forward unchanged. If you started prep last year, you are already on the right syllabus.

Is the NEET UG 2026 syllabus reduced?

+

No, not this year. The reduction already happened in the previous revision cycle when certain lower-priority topics were cut. The NEET UG 2026 syllabus reflects that trimmed version — it has not been reduced further, but it is still leaner than what students were preparing from two years ago.

What are the subjects included in the NEET syllabus?

+

Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. In the exam, Biology is split into Botany and Zoology, each with 45 questions. Physics and Chemistry get 45 questions apiece. The total is 180 questions for 720 marks, and Biology alone accounts for half that. The NEET syllabus is essentially a PCB paper, nothing outside of that.

What is the Physics syllabus for NEET UG 2026?

+

Physics in the NEET UG syllabus 2026 pulls from both Class 11 and 12. Class 11 is mostly mechanics - Kinematics, Laws of Motion, Thermodynamics, Oscillations, and so on. Class 12 moves into Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Magnetism, Optics, Modern Physics, and Electronic Devices. Experimental Skills also feature, which students often underestimate.

What is the Chemistry syllabus for NEET UG 2026?

+

The Chemistry portion of the NEET 2026 syllabus is three different subjects. Physical is calculation-heavy - Thermodynamics, Equilibrium, Kinetics. Inorganic is almost entirely NCERT. Organic is where students either feel comfortable or completely lost depending on whether they understood mechanisms or just memorised reactions.

What is the Biology syllabus for NEET UG 2026?

+

The Biology portion of the NEET UG syllabus 2026 is from Cell Biology and Plant Physiology in Class 11 through to Genetics, Reproduction, Biotechnology, and Ecology in Class 12. None of it asks you to go beyond NCERT.

What are the important chapters in NEET UG 2026?

+

In the NEET UG 2026 syllabus, the important chapters are Human Physiology, Genetics and Evolution, and Reproduction in Biology. In Chemistry, Coordination Compounds, Organic Reaction Mechanisms, and Chemical Bonding tend to carry the most weight. Physics questions cluster around Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Optics, and Mechanics across the most recent papers.

What is the chapter-wise weightage for NEET UG 2026?

+

The NTA does not put out an official chapter-wise breakdown for NEET UG 2026; what circulates is based on analysing past papers. That said, the patterns are fairly consistent: Biology, especially Zoology, tends to carry the most questions. Organic and Physical Chemistry lead on the Chemistry side. In Physics, Electrodynamics, and Mechanics show up most. The weightage table earlier in this article has the full breakdown.

Is NCERT enough for NEET UG preparation?

+

For Biology, yes. Most Biology questions in NEET are pulled directly from NCERT lines and diagrams, so a thorough reading goes further than any reference book. For Physics and Chemistry, NCERT is where you start, but you will need reference books and MCQ practice to build the speed and problem-solving ability that the paper actually demands.

What is deleted from the NEET 2026 syllabus?

+

The deletions in the NEET syllabus 2026 happened in the previous revision, not this year. What was removed then includes parts of Environmental Chemistry, certain Communication Systems topics in Physics, and a handful of Biology sub-topics. Nothing new has been cut for 2026. Check the official NEET syllabus 2026 PDF at nmc.org.in to see the exact list.

Where can I download the NEET UG 2026 syllabus PDF?

+

The NEET UG 2026 syllabus PDF is on the NMC's website at nmc.org.in. The NTA also has it up at neet.nta.nic.in as part of the information bulletin. Go to either of those directly, as third-party versions can be outdated or incomplete, and you want to be sure you are preparing from the right one.
