If you have just passed 12, applying for B.Com or BBA entrance exams in India are not the only options for Commerce students. There are a number of entrance examinations you can take to prove your eligibility to pursue a higher education in the Commerce field.

1. CUET Exam for Commerce

CUET, or Common University Entrance Test, is a national-level entrance examination conducted by NTA. UG and PG students can appear for this test based on the level of higher education they wish to seek admission.

Eligibility:

To appear for CUET for Commerce:

  • Students must have passed 12th in the Commerce stream.
  • Students should also have scored at least 50% marks.

Exam Pattern:

The CUET exam for Commerce consists of four sections:

  • Section 1A and 1B: Language Examination
  • Section 2: Domain Specific (Commerce subjects for students who have studied Commerce in 12th standard)
  • Section 3: General Test (General Knowledge, Reasoning, Current Affairs, Mental Ability, etc.)

Candidates are asked 50 questions in each section and given 45 minutes to complete each paper. The exam duration is 60 minutes for subjects like Economics, Accountancy, Mathematics, etc.

In all four papers, candidates are awarded 5 marks for each correct answer, and one mark is deducted for every wrong answer.

2. CMA Foundation Exam

CMA, also known as Cost Management Accountant, is a certification program. Candidates interested in this course must first appear for the CMA Foundation exam. This exam is conducted by ICMAI.

Eligibility:

The eligibility criteria for appearing in the CMA Foundation exam are:

  • Candidates should have passed 10th or an equivalent examination from a recognized institution or board.
  • Candidates should have passed 12th with a minimum of 50% from a recognized board or institution. Alternatively, they must have passed the National Diploma in Commerce conducted by AICTE or the State Board of Technical Education recognized by All India Council/ Diploma in Rural Service conducted by the National Council of Higher Education.

Exam Pattern:

The CMA Foundation exam is held twice yearly- in June and December.

In the CMA Foundation examination, candidates have to appear for four papers.

  • Paper 1: Fundamentals of Business Law and Business Communication (2 hours)
  • Paper 2: Fundamentals of Financial and Cost Accounting (2 hours)
  • Paper 3: Fundamentals of Business Mathematics and Statistics (2 hours)
  • Paper 4: Fundamentals of Business Economy and Management (2 hours)

Each of these four papers has 100 questions, bearing 1 mark each.

3. CA Entrance Exam:

CA is one of the most popularly opted-for Commerce career options after 12. For 12th graders who are aspiring to become a CA, the CA Foundation Exam conducted by ICAI is the stepping stone to their prosperous careers.

Eligibility:

The educational qualification criteria to be eligible for the CA Foundation exam are:

  • Candidates who have passed 10th from a state or central government board or an equivalent examination can apply for the CA Foundation. This admission is, however, provisional in nature and is regularized only after they clear their class 12 examination.
  • Students in 12th grade or who have already passed 12th with a minimum of 50% are eligible to register for the CA Foundation exam.

Exam Pattern:

This CA entrance exam has four papers:

  • Paper 1: Accounting (3 hours)
  • Paper 2: Business Laws (3 hours)
  • Paper 3: Quantitative Aptitude (This paper is divided into three parts: Business Mathematics, Logical Reasoning, Statistics) (2 hours)
  • Paper 4: Statistics (2 hours)

Each paper consists of 100 marks. While the first two papers are subjective in nature, the third and fourth papers contain objective questions.

There is no negative marking for wrong answers in papers 1 and 2, but for every wrong answer in papers 3 and 4, 1/4 mark is deducted.

4. CS Foundation Exam

The CS or Company Secretary course is a professional course in which students learn how to become valuable advisors to organizations on matters of importance, such as governance issues and other legal and financial matters.

The CS Foundation exam, conducted by The Institute of Company Secretaries of India, is a screening test. The exam tests a candidate’s basic knowledge and aptitude.

Eligibility Criteria:

The eligibility criteria for the CS Foundation exam is:

  • Candidates should have appeared for their 12th standard exam from an accredited board or university and should have secured a minimum of 50% aggregate marks.
  • Students who are appearing for their 12th standard exam can still enrol, but they need to show proof, such as their examination roll number.

Exam Pattern:

The CS Foundation exam is computer-based. It is conducted over two days. The subjects are as follows:

Day 1:

  • Business Environment and Law (1.5 hours)
  • Business Management, Ethics, and Entrepreneurship (1.5 hours)

Day 2:

  • Business Economics (1.5 hours)
  • Fundamentals of Accounting and Auditing (1.5 hours)

All the papers have 50 questions each. Candidates are awarded 2 marks for each correct answer.
