The Ministry of Education, Government of India released the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024 Rankings on August 12, 2024. The institutions ranking in the top three positions include the Indian Institute of Sciences (IISc), Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), and Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI). IISc, Bangalore with a score of 83.29 has gained the first position, whereas JNU and JMI, New Delhi with scores of 69.80 and 68.11 are in the second, and third positions respectively. Amity University, Noida with a score of 56.14 is a NIRF ranking university in the 32nd position.

NIRF presents rankings to Indian universities and colleges as per scores obtained by them in five different parameters as mentioned below:

  • Student Strength including doctoral students (SS)
  • Faculty-student ratio with emphasis on permanent faculty (FSR)
  • Combined metric for faculty with PhD (or equivalent) and experience (FQE)
  • Financial Resources and their Utilisation (FRU)

 

  1. Research and Professional Practice (RP)
  • Combined metric for publications (PU)
  • Combined metric for quality of publications (QP)
  • IPR and patents: published and granted (IPR)
  • Footprint of projects and professional practice (FPPP)
