How to Apply for an IIT Madras Summer Internship 2025?

If you want to know ‘How to get an internship at IIT Madras’, here is the stepwise process to apply for an IIT M internship:

1. To Apply for the internship at IIT Madras students are required to register and create a new account.  
2. Remember not to use special characters and empty spaces in the username/login name while registering for the new account.
3. The applicants will receive a confirmation email from sfp@wmail.iitm.ac.in. They can confirm their login and create their password using the link shared in the email.
4. Candidates can reset their credentials using the ‘Reset Your Password’ link using their email address if they forget the password. 
5. Keep checking the site from time to time through login to check status updates or alerts related to the internship selection process.
6. Once you have created the account and logged in you can go to the ‘My Application Summary’ tab to see the online internship application form. Now, fill in the 2 forms available on this page using the links given below each block. 
7. Once you complete the forms, the next step is to upload the forms. You will have to upload a passport-size photograph, a Bonafide certificate, academic certificates, and a Category and PWD as applicable. 
8. Once uploaded, apply by clicking the ‘Submit Application’ link. Choose the department you want to apply. You will get a sequential application number. The results will be intimated by the departments. 

Remember that hard copies of the internship application are not accepted.

Who Are Eligible for an IIT Madras Internship?

• Applicants who are pursuing their third year of Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.), Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech), or Bachelor of Science in Engineering (B.Sc. Engg.) are eligible for the program.
• Students in their 3^rd or 4^th year of Integrated Master of Engineering (M.E.) or Master of Technology (M.Tech.) can also apply for the internship.
• Applicants in their first year of Master of Engineering (ME), Master of Technology (M.Tech), Master of Science (M.Sc.), Master of Arts (M.A), and Master of Business Administration (MBA) with outstanding track record in academics like high ranks in university examinations can also take part in the internship program.
• These candidates must highlight their performance and achievements in academics. For example, showcase projects that you have executed or the papers that you have presented at seminars. You can also highlight scores or rank in Mathematics Olympiads or other awards, contests, etc.
• The IIT Madras Research Internship is generally available during your summer break from May to July for 2 months.
• The interns are eligible for a stipend of Rs 6,000 per month for a maximum period of 2 months.
• Students are required to produce Bonafide letters issued by the HOD/Principal of the institute where they are studying certifying their authenticity.
