2. Clear the AIPVT

Next, you need to appear for the competitive test - All India Pre-Veterinary Test (AIPVT), a nationwide entrance test required for admission to the Bachelor’s degree program at one of the veterinary schools in India.

3. Pursue an undergraduate degree

After clearing the AIPVT, you are eligible to apply for admission to a B.V.Sc and A.H. degree course at a recognized veterinary school. Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry is an undergraduate course that offers foundational knowledge in domains like the skeletal system of animals, animal physiology, anatomy, and pharmacology, among others.

4. Complete the mandatory internship

Upon completion of the Bachelor’s degree defined above, you’d need to also complete the compulsory rotational internship ranging between 6 months and 1 year at a recognized veterinary hospital.

5. Get your veterinary license

This is the last and final step in the process that defines “how do I become a veterinarian?” You would need to register yourself with the Veterinary Council of India (VCI) and secure a license to practice as a professional veterinarian. This can be done after completing your internship program. For the registration, you’d be required to submit a set of documents, such as a certificate of completion of internship and the Bachelor’s degree certificate.
